V&A extends exhibition

London’s V&A museum announced it will extend its extremely popular Christian Dior-exhibition. Tickets sold out within 19 days of the exhibition opening!

The Victoria & Albert Museum‘s exhibition was set to close per 14th July, but will now welcome visitors till 1st September 2019. So far, over 121,566 people visited “Christian Dior, designer of dreams”, located in the museum’s renovated Sainsbury Gallery. The exhibition opened 2nd of February.

This exhibition is based on the one created by the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, 2017. The London museum pays attention to Christian Dior’s attraction to British culture: Dior in Britain.

This special section displays, among other creations, the famous asymmetric tulle gown which Dior created for Princess Margaret’s 21st birthday celebrations in 1951. But of course, the exhibition contains many other ground-breaking, famous designs.

Attention is also paid to designers who followed in the footsteps of Christian Dior. Designs created for Dior by are also exhibited. Think of creations by designers like Yves Saint Laurent, John Galliano, Raf Simons and of course Maria Grazia Chiuri.

Dior asymetrical dress VandAThe museum announced additional tickets will be released on the 15th of each month. At the moment of publishing this post, the V&A website still told visitors all exhibition tickets had sold out.

Tickets for the exhibition can only be obtained through the V&A’s website. The museum warns “… Advance booking highly recommended. Very limited tickets are available to purchase daily at 10am from the Grand Entrance on a first-come, first-served basis; these tickets are for times throughout the day on that day only.”

The V&A offers various related events and activities. These range from workshops on fashion design to a showing of the film “Dior and I”, with dinner included. Visit the museum’s website for all information!

Not that interested in Christian Dior and his impact on fashion, style? The V&A will host other fashion exhibitions. These include one about British fashion designer Mary Quant. This exhibition will open 6th of April 2019.
